Blue Didgets end summer season

The Wayne Blue Didgets picked up a win to close the regular season before losing in the first round of the Tri County League tournament.

Last Wednesday, the Blue Didgets crushed the West Point Royals 12-2.

Wayne put up four runs in the first inning to take control of the game early as they pounded out seven hits in the win.

Sy Chase had two hits, including a triple, and scored three times in the win. Gage Kimmel had two hits, including a triple and drove in five runs. Braden McManigal had two RBI and scored three runs, Treyvan Rager scored twice and Hudson Kramer also had two runs scored and got the pitching win, allowing three hits and two walks while striking out 11.

In the first round of the league tournament Sunday, the Blue Didgets lost a close one to the Cardinals, 6-5.

Wayne fell behind early and nearly came back from a 6-1 deficit, falling one run short in their final at bat.

An error, three walks and singles by Kimmel and Ryan Loberg got Wayne within one run with the tying run on third and the go-ahead run on first, but the Cardinals were able to get the final two outs to seal the win.

Kimmel had two hits and two RBI’s for Wayne, and McManigal scored two runs. Kimmel and Kramer combined for 12 strikeouts on the mound.
