Two individual medals high on the podium will be returning to northeast Nebraska where Wayne girls wrestling was put on full display during championship Wednesday at state.
Back at the CHI Health Center Arena in Omaha, all five Wayne girls were still in action early on during the 2025 NSAA Girls State Wrestling Championships in Class A.
In the team race, Wayne finished 14th with 54.5 points as scoring was posted by each wrestler picking up at least one victory. There were 53 Class A girls teams.
Head Wayne High girls wrestling coach Jason Trautman said, “this was our first year in class A and most likely the last year as we end our co-op with Laurel.”
Norfolk won the Class A state title with 142 points while Omaha Westside followed in runner-up with 120.5 points.
Nyla Bolles (A135) earned a silver medal after securing three pins before falling in the finals by fall (3:35) to Sofia Hoegemeyer from Millard West. Bolles ends her season at 39-5.
Essynce Owens-Webb (A100) also medaled for Wayne taking fourth to close her season at 32-8. Owens-Webb picked up a consolation semifinal victory by fall (3:33) before suffering a heartbreaking 1-0 loss by decision against Joshyonna Coppage-Dortch from Omaha North in the third place match.
Coach Trautman added, “big congrats to Essynce Owens-Webb for her fourth place finish and congrats to Nyla Bolles on her second place finish. This may be the last time that Wayne competes in class A, so way to put your name in the history books. Class B better watch out for these girls next season”
Serenity Heil-Ellis (125) ended her season at 26-17 following a loss by medical forfeit in the consolation round two match; Anna Naeve (145) won her second round consolation match by fall (1:42) before falling in the heartbreak round (one win shy of the consolation semifinal to advance to a medal match) suffering a loss by fall (3:45) to Hannah Carlson from Omaha Bryan to end her season at 29-10 and Kadence Rees (155) went 1-1 on Wednesday morning winning her first round consolation match by Tech Fall – 1.5 (4:43, 15-0) before ending her season at 30-14 with a loss by major decision (14-2) in the consolation round two match.
Coach Trautman mentioned, “there were some amazing moments that truly showcased the heart and fight that these girls have. Kadence had a great 15-0 tech fall (a great accomplishment) and Serenity and Anna had amazing comeback victories where they were down big, hit a reversal and stuck their girls.”
Also, Wakefield’s Class B 135 state qualifier of Naomi Nelson suffered a first round consolation loss by major decision (10-0) ending her season at 18-10.
