A member from each of the Wayne State College softball and baseball teams were recognized to open the week by NSIC officials.

According to a release from Wayne State Athletics, redshirt freshman Kennadi Borngrebe (pitcher) for Wildcat softball and senior Chase Douglas (player) for WSC baseball were both selected with Pitcher/Player of the Week honors.

For Borngrebe, it’s the second time this season being named with Pitcher of the Week honors (February 18).

Last week, the Elkhorn South High School graduate went 2-0 in two starts to help WSC close their annual Florida trip with 8-2 record. She fired a four-hit shutout with nine strikeouts in a 5-0 win over Northwood (Mich.) last Tuesday and worked 6.1 innings the next day allowing just four hits and one run in a 4-1 victory over Ohio Dominican. For the week she pitched 13.1 innings and allowed just one run on eight hits with 14 strikeouts.

For the season, Borngrebe leads the Wildcat pitching staff with an 8-4 record in 13 games and 10 starts with five complete games. She ranks third in the NSIC with 80 strikeouts, is tied for fourth in wins (8) and is eighth in earned run average at 1.91.

The Wayne State softball team is 15-9 on the season. WSC will open NSIC play on the road at Minot State Saturday and University of Mary Sunday.

Chase Douglas played in six Wayne State College baseball wins last week.

A 5-10, 180-pound senior second baseman from Marshall, Minnesota, Douglas posted a .579 batting average in six games last week going 11 for 19 at the plate with eight RBI and 10 runs scored.  He had five multi-hit games and had six stolen bases with four walks during the week.

Douglas went 2 for 3 with a homer, four RBI and two runs scored in last Monday's 11-1 win over Wayne State (Mich.).  He was 3 for 4 with a double and run scored in Friday's 6-3 victory over Bemidji State. Douglas also went 2 for 4 with a homer, two RBI and two runs scored in Friday's 19-1 win over the Beavers and he was 2 for 4 with two stolen bases and two runs scored in a 12-11 Tuesday win over Ohio Dominican.

For the season, Douglas is batting .349 for the Wildcats in 17 games and ranks second in the NSIC with 13 stolen bases.
