It’s not new news for those within the Wayne State College softball community, but redshirt freshman pitcher Kennadi Borngrebe is on the rise and is being noticed by league officials.
According to a release from Wayne State Athletics, Borngrebe was named the NSIC Softball Pitcher of the Week by the league office in Burnsville, Minnesota. This comes following her performance last week and is the third time this season the Elkhorn South graduate has collected NSIC Pitcher of the Week honors.
Borngrebe fired back-to-back shutouts Friday and Saturday vs. Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State. Against the Bulldogs Friday she had a four hit shutout with seven strikeouts in a 2-0 win as WSC beat UMD in softball for the first time since 2016 snapping a 13-game losing skid. The next day Borngrebe struck out 12 batters allowing just six hits in a 1-0 win over St. Cloud State. For the weekend she had 19 strikeouts in 14 innings of work allowing just 10 hits.
Through the weekend, Borngrebe is 11-5 with a 1.49 ERA in 17 games with 14 starts. She ranks fourth in the NSIC in strikeouts (114), opponent batting average (.188) and ERA. She has nine complete games and four shutouts in 89.1 innings pitched this season, allowing just 19 earned runs.
