Boston Brown collects three gold medals for Trojans, Wakefield boys win home invite

After competing in the area the past few weeks, the Wakefield girls and boys track & field program put their talents to the test at home.

From the Wakefield High School Track Complex at Gardner Stadium, seven total programs were in action during the Wakefield Invite on Tuesday.

The Wakefield girls finished sixth with 45 points while the Trojan boys won their division with 122.5 points.

In the girls division, Elkhorn Valley won the Wakefield Invite with 109 points, Homer and Clarkson-Leigh both followed in second (93), Wisner-Pilger placed fourth (88) and Cedar Bluffs rounded out the top five teams with 57 points.

The Wakefield girls were led by sophomore Boston Brown who won the 100-meter hurdles (16.96), 300-meter hurdles (48.82) and the triple jump (35' 6 1/2"). Boston Brown also took third in the 100-meter dash (13.81).

Junior Ashlyn Riewer placed fifth in the 200-meter finals (29.26), freshman Molly Schlickbernd finished fifth during the 800-meter run (2:49.55) and sophomore Montse Avila took sixth in the pole vault (6').

In relays, the 4x100 of Avila, Riewer, junior Gracyn Keagle and senior Alli Brown finished fourth (55.24).

During the boys division, the Trojans won their home Invite with 122.5 points, Elkhorn Valley followed in second (109), Homer took third (103.5), Howells-Dodge placed fourth (55) and Wisner-Pilger rounded out the top five teams with 51 points.

Gold medals were awarded to junior Cael Johnson during the 300-meter hurdles (40.72), senior Jesse Lundahl in the discus (148' 10") and the 4x100-meter relay team of junior Brandon Paredes, Johnson, junior Jacob Borg and junior Mason Lamprecht in a time of 45.52.

Runner-up results came from Lamprecht in the 200-meter dash (24.74) and long jump (19' 5 1/4"), junior Benny Palma during the 3200-meter run (11:25.21), Johnson in the 110-meter hurdles (15.77), Lundahl during the shot put (42' 5 1/2"), sophomore Adrian Flores during the pole vault (11') and Paredes in the triple jump (37' 7 3/4").

Palma finished third in the 1600-meter run (5:13.6), senior Timothy Kaufman took third in the long jump (18' 11 3/4") and Borg placed fourth in the 200-meter dash (25.3).

Other team scoring came from Lundahl in fifth during the 400-meter dash (55.69) as well as Borg (5' 4") and Paredes (5' 2") went fifth and sixth in the high jump.

In relays, the 4x400 of Lundahl, Borg, Lamprecht and Johnson finished second (3:35.16) and the 4x800 of Palma, sophomore Baldwin Garcia, freshman Tucker Raveling and sophomore William Benson took third (9:57.17). The Wakefield B 4x800 also medaled in fifth from sophomore Sawyer Brudigam, sophomore Vinsel Molina, freshman Mark Ruiz-Cardona and freshman Davidsin Lortz (11:19.20).
