Boston Brown wins three events, Johnson with two

Wakefield girls and boys track & field action continued Tuesday with two individuals stealing the spotlight.

From the Lyons-Decatur Football/Track Complex, 14 girls and 13 boys teams made up the Cougar Invite.

The Wakefield girls finished sixth with 46 points while the Trojan boys took runner-up with 86 points.

In the girls division, Pender won the Cougar Invite with 128 points, Clarkson-Leigh followed in runner-up (104), Stanton took third (79), Oakland-Craig placed fourth (70) and Cedar Bluffs rounded out the top five teams with 61 points.

Sophomore Boston Brown won the 100-meter hurdles (17.42), 300-meter hurdles (50.56) and triple jump (35' 10 1/2").

Senior Mikkie Mogus took sixth in the discus (83' 4").

In relay action, the 4x100 of sophomore Montse Avila, junior Ashlyn Riewer, junior Gracyn Keagle and senior Alli Brown took sixth (56.17) as did the 4x400 of freshman Rihanna Rivera, freshman Gabriella Hoffart, freshman Kimberly Solano and junior Sierra Kaufman (4:53.72). 

During the boys division, Howells-Dodge won the Cougar Invite with 94 points, Wakefield followed in runner-up (86), Stanton took third (79), Oakland-Craig placed fourth (73) and Mead rounded out the top five teams with 67 points.

Event champions came from junior Cael Johnson in the 110-meter hurdles (16.7) and 300-meter hurdles (41.99).

Also, the 4x400-meter relay of senior Jesse Lundahl, junior Jacob Borg, junior Mason Lamprecht and Johnson placed first in 3:40.37.

Junior Benny Palma took second in the 1600-meter run (5:10.07) and second in the 3200-meter run (11:18.93). Senior Timothy Kaufman added a silver medal during the long jump (19' 9 1/2") along with Lundahl with a second place finish in the discus (150' 1/4").

Borg tied for fifth in the high jump (5' 4").

Junior Brandon Parades placed sixth in the 110-meter hurdles (20.46) and the triple jump (37' 9 1/4") as well as Lamprecht took sixth in the long jump (18' 1 1/2").

In relays, the 4x800 of Palma, sophomore Baldwin Garcia, freshman Tucker Raveling and sophomore Will Benson placed fourth (9:38.48) and the 4x100 of Parades, Johnson, Borg and Lamprecht took fifth (47.5).

The Wakefield girls and boys track & field team will next host their home Invite from the Wakefield Track Complex on Tuesday, April 22.
