Brief agenda greets commissioners

Only two action items were on the agenda when the Wayne County Commissioners met for a regular meeting on Oct. 21.

Several requests for funding from the Wayne County Convention & Visitors Bureau were approved.

These include:

Bressler Fest Music in the Park ($2,000); Christmas in Wayne ($3,000); December Holiday Movies ($1,200 - advertising only); Festival of Trees ($750 - advertising only); Christmas in Winside ($750); Christmas 'n' Carroll ($700); Northeast Nebraska Shootout Holiday Basketball Tournament ($3,000).

Denied was a request from the Wayne Eagles Club for upcoming soup suppers.

A brief discussion was held on offering Colonial Penn supplemental insurance to county employees.

County Clerk Joni Tietz said she had received information from the company and noted offerings were similar to that of another company  already used by the county.

Commissioners felt that adding another option at this time would only result in additional work in handling payroll deductions for the insurance.

Commissioners did indicate that if an employee were to come before the board seeking to have insurance through the company, the item would be revisited.

The Wayne County Board of Commissioners will next meet in regular session on Tuesday, Nov. 4 at 9 a.m. in the Wayne County Courthouse.
