Bronco Blue season ends

The Wayne Bronco Blue team won its last regular-season game before falling in the first round of the Tri County League tournament.

On Wednesday, Wayne shut out the West Point Royals in a 9-0 decision.

Wayne scored two in the first and added three more in the third to take control of the game, finishing with a four-run fifth inning.

Easton Endicott hit an inside-the-park home run to get the locals going in the first inning. Kash Haase and Isaiah Zarate both had RBI singles in the fifth inning.

Colton Starzl had three hits and scored twice for the winners. Zarate had two runs scored and Endicott had two hits, with Remyngton Fregoso, Grant Reeg, Ben Patefield and Haase all scoring runs. Starzl scattered five hits and walked one while striking out 11.

In tournament play Monday, Wayne fell to the Cardinals 5-4 to end its season with a 7-6 record.

The Cardinals scored four in the first and Wayne had to play catch-up from there. 

Wayne got a run in the fourth when Haase singled home Reeg, then added another in the fifth on an RBI triple by Endicott, scoring Starzl.

In the sixth, Wayne scored two runs on an RBI single by Cameron Ellyson and had the tying run in scoring position, but the Cardinals turned a double play to end the rally and the game.

Endicott had two hits and Haase added two hits for the Bronco Blue team. Reeg scored two runs and Ellyson had two RBI. Starzl struck out 10 in a losing effort.
