Carrie Jones found guilty on several charges

Carrie Jones will be sentenced to life in prison without parole after a Madison County jury last week found her guilty of first-degree murder, evidence tampering and being an accessory in connection to a quadruple homicide in Laurel in August 2022.

The verdict against Jones, 46, was read shortly before 4:30 p.m. Aug. 7 after the jury of 11 women and one man deliberated for a little over 3 1/2 hours. The Laurel woman shook her head side to side as the verdict was read.

She was charged in the homicide of Gene Twiford in his Laurel home. Prosecutors claim the woman was outraged by inappropriate public comments made by the 86-year-old.

Jones faces up to 70 years in prison on top of the life sentence. District Judge Bryan Meismer scheduled sentencing for Thursday, Nov. 20, in Cedar County.

The trial took place in Madison, after it was moved from Cedar County. A judge ruled it would be hard to find an impartial jury in the same county where the murders took place.
