Two final non-conference outings took over the Wayne State College women's and men's basketball schedules in late November, early December.
Both teams went 1-1 over their past two outings with the Wayne State College women (6-1/1-10 NSIC) suffering their first loss of the season on Nov. 29 at UNK falling 69-59 followed by a Dec. 1 home victory over Hesston College from Kansas (95-27).
The WSC men (4-3/0-1 NSIC) lost 62-29 at UNK followed by a 97-50 home win against Hesston College (KS).
In women's action at Kearney, graduate transfer (Idaho State) Tenleigh Smith led the Wildcats with 18 points. Senior Rachel Dahlen added 15 points along with redshirt junior transfer Kelsey Willems (Augustana) scored 12 points. Senior Kylah vanDonkersgoed grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds.
Against Hesston College, sophomore Emma Frost posted a team-high 17 points while senior Meg Rietz and sophomore Addy Johnson both added 10 points.
During men's action at Kearney, senior Kai Smith and senior transfer (Crookston) Andrew Stokes both led the Wildcats with 13 points.
Against Hesston College, redshirt freshman Darshan Thomas led WSC with 18 points while freshman Ben Kerkhoff and Stokes both recorded 17 points.
The Wayne State College men and women returned to NSIC play on Dec. 3 with the Wildcat men winning 91-79 while the WSC women suffered a 77-54 loss to Sioux Falls. WSC will next visit SMSU in Marshall, MN on Dec. 6 at 2/4 p.m. (men play first) to open a three-game road stretch.
