Cedar Catholic provided a heavy dose of the run game against Wayne High Friday night.
From the Hartington Sports Complex, the Trojans welcomed the Blue Devils during week two of the NSAA season.
Cedar Catholic scored on seven straight possessions to win 47-6 over Wayne and moved to 1-1 on the season. The Blue Devils fell to 0-2.
Wayne was forced to punt four straight times until the end of the first half and finished the game with five punts and one fumble.
Trojan scoring began early in the first quarter following a nine yard score by freshman Micah Cattau (8:48 left). Cedar Catholic scored once more in the first quarter thanks to a 47-yard passing touchdown from senior Braeden Reifenrath to senior Nolan Becker (2:49 remaining) to go up 14-0.
In the second quarter, Cedar Catholic added back-to-back rushing scores from junior Breiton Whitmire (four yards and nine yards) at the 10:41 and 9:37 marks until half. Sophomore Easton Hochstein also scored from five yards out with 2:50 remaining.
Score at the half favored the Trojans leading 35-0.
Whitmire scored one last time on a 30-yard touchdown with 7:15 left in the third quarter as Easton Hochstein added a five-yard touchdown with 10:31 remaining in the fourth. Cedar Catholic led at most 47-0 after missing both extra points.
Wayne junior running back Taven Ocampo allowed Wayne to avoid the shutout thanks to an 18-yard scoring run with 6:43 left in the game.
Final favored Cedar Catholic winning 47-6.
Wayne High finished ran 33 plays for 162 total yards (81 passing/81 rushing) while Cedar Catholic finished with 300 yards on 52 plays (73 passing/227 rushing).
Kaden Keller went 5-12 for 81 yards with Parker Patefield the top receiver on three catches for 42 yards.
Taven Ocampo carried the ball 10 times for 65 yards and one touchdown. Brodey Munter added three rushes for 19 yards.
Defensively, the Blue Devils were led by Will Leseberg with nine solo tackles which included one for loss while Ocampo (three solo), Munter (three solo) and Rodriguez (five solo) all had six tackles.
The Blue Devils were 1-8 on third down while Cedar Catholic finished 2-5 on third down and 3-3 on fourth down. The lone turnover of the game was a fumble by Wayne.
The Wayne High football team will next host Omaha Brownell Talbot on Friday, Sept. 13 at 7 p.m.
