Chandler, Menard earn All-NSIC softball honors

Wayne State seniors Emily Chandler and Taylor Menard were voted to the 2019 NSIC All-Conference softball team, both receiving second-team honors.

Chandler, a 5-foot-9 senior first baseman, collected her third All-NSIC honor in four years after earning first-team accolades as freshman and junior. This season, Chandler recorded a .331 batting average while starting 46 of 47 games and led the Wildcats in most offensive categories including hits (45), home runs (11), runs scored (26) and RBI (40). She led Wayne State in multiple RBI games with 12 and tied for second with 10 multi-hit games. In NSIC play, Chandler hit .366 in 30 starts during conference play and recorded 11 homers and 33 RBI.

Chandler hit a two-run homer in her final collegiate game at Minnesota Crookston last Saturday to finish her career as the all-time leader in RBI at Wayne State with 148. She also finished second in career homers (31), tied for fourth in hits (208) and was eighth in runs scored at 101.

Menard, a 5-foot-3 senior outfielder/third baseman, led the Wildcats this season in batting average at .402 with 37 starts and 40 games played. She led the Wildcats in multi-hit games with 13 and was second on the team in total hits with 41. Menard was the lone Wildcat to record a four-hit game this season, going 4-for-4 with two RBI at Northern State on April 20.

In NSIC play this season, Menard carried a .420 average in 30 games and 29 starts, tied for the team lead in hits during conference play with 34.
