Junior first baseman Emily Chandler and senior catcher Katelyn Wobken represent Wayne State College on the 2018 NSIC All-Conference Softball Team.
Chandler received first-team All-NSIC honors for the second time in three years while Wobken was a second-team All-NSIC selection for a second straight year and was also awarded the NSIC Gold Glove at the catcher position.
Chandler, a 5-foot-9 junior first baseman, led Wayne State in batting average this season at .392 while starting all 45 games at first base. She tied Wobken for the team lead in hits with 60 and had seven homers, a team-high 43 RBI and nine doubles at the plate this season. Chandler also posted team-highs of 18 multi-hit games and 10 games with multiple RBI’s that included a career-high six RBI going 5 for 5 in a 13-11 win at Minot State April 8.
In NSIC play (26 games), Chandler paced the Wildcats with a .429 batting average, recording four homers and 34 RBI and had 11 multi-hit games with eight multi-RBI contests.
Wobken, a 5-foot-7 senior catcher from Scribner, recorded a .377 batting average this season, starting all 45 games behind the plate. She tied for the team lead in hits with 60 while leading the team in runs scored (36), at bats (159) and stolen bases (18-18) to go with nine doubles, two triples, four homers and 25 RBI.
In NSIC games (26), Wobken produced a .411 batting average with a team-high 37 hits in conference play and 26 runs scored with four homers and 18 RBI.
Defensively, Wobken received the NSIC Gold Glove award at catcher after recording just two errors for a .989 fielding percentage with 143 putouts and 37 assists while throwing out 14 runners stealing a base.
For her career, Wobken finished tied for sixth in triples (9), tied for seventh in home runs (17), eighth in stolen bases (40-42) and 10th in total bases (258).
Wayne State College finished the 2018 season with a record of 16-29 overall and placed 11th in the NSIC with a league mark of 10-16.
