Tori Kniesche struck out a season-high 19 batters and Allison Claussen hit her first home run of the season as Wayne improved to 20-0 with a 7-0 shutout of NEN Thursday at the Summer Sports Complex.
The Blue Devils got their first run of the game in the third when Josie Thompson scored on a two-out Maysn Dorey single to left. Wayne added two more in the fifth on a two-run RBI single by Annie Kniesche, scoring Claussen and Dorey.
In the sixth, Kendall Dorey brought Sidney Biggerstaff home with a single, and Claussen followed by hitting the first pitch over the wall in center for a three-run homer, her first of the season.
That was more than enough for Kniesche, who gave up only a two-out single in the sixth and finished with 19 strikeouts and one walk for the complete-game win.
Claussen, Maysn Dorey and Tori Kniesche each had two hits to lead a 10-hit attack. Abby Ankeny added a double and Claussen scored twice and had three RBI’s.
The Blue Devils will head to Hastings Saturday for the Adams Central Invitational. They face Polk County in first-round action at 9 a.m.
