Commissioners approve ARPA review, final projects

The final projects using American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) have been completed and all the money allocated to Wayne County has been spent.

This was information shared with the Wayne County Board of Commissioners during the regular meeting on Tuesday.

Sandra Bernt, who has been administering the grant funds since 2021 told the commissioners that 15 projects were completed, at a cost of $1,822,926. The first project with these funds was completed in 2022.

County Treasurer Lisa Lindsay told the board that Fund 2580 will be closed in the coming days and the checking account used to distribute the ARPA funds will need to be maintained for five years in the event of an audit.

Funds the account will be used for administrative costs and the remained placed in the county''s General Fund.

In other action, Wayne County Highway Superintendent Kyle Huff brought forth three items needing commissioner approval.

These included a road agreement with the communication company Vertical Bridge for the installation of communication equipment; three utility permits with Northeast Nebraska Telephone for work in Districts 1 and 3 and the possible replacement of Bridge C90-538 in District 2.

Huff said "the bridge had gotten lots of misuse this fall." He said the bridge work was on the county's one and six year plan and, weather permitting, work could take place as soon as materials arrive.

The quote of $43,290 from B's Enterprises, Inc. was approved for  the materials for the project. These are projected to arrive in 4-6 weeks.

Guests during Tuesday's meeting included members of the Wayne Leadership Class. Each person in attendance had the opportunity to introduce themselves.

The Wayne County Board of Commissioners will next meet in regular session on Tuesday, Dec. 2 at 9 a.m. in the Wayne County Courtroom.
