A relatively light agenda greeted the Wayne County Board of Commissioners when they met in regular session on Oct. 7.
Highway Superintendent Kyle Huff shared information on an updated one-and-six year road improvement plan.
Huff added three bridge projects - two in District 1 and one in District 2 to the plan. He explained what each of the projects would involve and the timeline.
Commissioners voted unanimously to add these projects to the plan.
Huff also brought forth a request from Northeast Nebraska Telephone Company for three separate utility permits for work in District 3. These were approved and work is scheduled to be completed between Oct. 20 and Nov. 3
The final item Huff shared information about was changes in the 8-1-1 locate call system. He said there are new rules on what the county can and cannot do and the time frame for making the calls to get the location work completed.
County Treasurer Lisa Lindsay came before the board with an updated distress warrant listing. She told the board that her office is required to present this information in October for the last year. There are currently six properties with unpaid taxes.
Commissioners approved this list to close out the last year and Lindsay sent out 32 new notices last week and some of those have already been taken care of.
Commissioners decided not to continue to provide funding for the Department of Health and Human Services building on Centennial Road. It was noted that the county can give the building back to the state as there is no one there on a regular basis. Recent legislation has resulted in changes in the county's requirements for the services provided.
County Clerk Joni Tietz also shared information with the board on a NEMA Grant the county had received several years ago. Tietz said the purpose of the grant was to upgrade cyber security. She said the services provided by the grant will be changing, but costs associated have not.
The Board of Commissioners will next meet at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 21 in the Wayne County Courtroom.
