Community invited to attend home track & field invite at Wildcat Dome Saturday

Ahead of their first home indoor competition in over four years, the Wayne State women’s and men’s indoor track & field team competed over two days during the Mark Shuck Open.

From Mankato, Minnesota, the Jan. 31 – Feb. 1 meet attracted 29 total teams across NCAA Division I, II, and III as well as some NAIA schools, seven of them being NSIC opponents.

The Wayne State College women were led by Olivia Schwarzrock with two top-5 finishes.

Schwarzrock finished fourth in the weight throw with her best toss of 16.67m and finished fifth in the shot put with a throw of 12.83m.

Both distance medley relay squads earned points for the women’s team. Callie Kirchner, Kaitlyn Bloomenrader, Jozlyn Barnes, and Madeline Kunz placed fifth with their time of 13:19.42.

Maelee Beacom, Taylor Thorp, Allison Czapla, and Madison McKie placed sixth with their time of 14:07.35.

The top finish for the Wayne State College men came from Quentin Dreyer’s first in the one mile with a time of 4:22.43.

Emmanuel Badejo showed off his speed in his first collegiate meet for the Wildcats with his second-place finish in the 400m, crossing the line with a time of 49.93.

Senior Daniel Elge was the 'Cats third top finisher, placing third in the weight throw with a toss of 17.59m.

Freshman sprinter Mitchell Hupp placed fifth both the 60m and 200m. the Stanton High School product finished with times of 6.92 and 22.08 in his races. Hupp earned eight team points.

Mitchell Rudie's time of 1:09.91 was fast enough to land in fifth place in the 500m race.

Sophomore Elliot Nottlemann cleared 1.93m in the high jump, earning fifth place.

Akron Jostand, Andrew Wyllie, Brody Lucas, and Ethan Walters finished second in the distance medley with their time of 10:46.69.

The Wayne State College indoor track & field team will next host the first Wildcat Indoor Classic inside the new Wildcat Dome on Saturday, Feb. 8 with free admission. Field events start at 10 a.m. with running events to follow at 12:10 p.m.
