Discussion on the need for in-field irrigation for ballfields that are part of the Wayne Prairie Park Phase 4 Baseball Fields Project highlighted Monday's meeting of the Wayne City Council.

A change order in the amount of $13,978.81 to Cooney Fertilizers, Inc. for the installation of in-field irrigation for three of the fields was denied.

Council members Parker Bolte and Austyn Houser voted for the change order and Chris Woehler, Jason Karsky, Joe Whitt, Dallas Dorey, Brittany Webber and Dwaine Spieker voted against approving the change order.

Council members took action on the submission of the Wayne Senior Center's fiscal year 2026 detailed plan of operation and budget for the Northeast Nebraska Area Agency on Aging and acceptance of a new fiscal year Service Awards that have been awarded by the Area Agency.

Approval was given to Wayne State College to have fireworks displays at all home football games in the coming months.

A resolution was approved which will amend the city's fee schedule for a number of services. These include such things as the share of the cost of rocks for alleys that the property owner pays, the cost of using the swimming pool for pool parties and using the city's barricades, cones, barrels and signs.

The Wayne City Council will next meet in regular session on Monday, Aug. 3 at 5:30 p.m. in council chambers. The meeting will be followed by a budget work session, which is open to the public.
