The Wayne Police Department will once again be providing law enforcement resources to Wayne Community Schools following action taken during Monday's meeting of the Wayne City Council.
The resolution is basically the same agreement currently in place between the school and the city. It calls for a police officer to be at the school 21 hours per week when school is in session.
However, there is an increase in the hourly rate of pay from the current $44.00 to $48.52.
Council members discussed, but took no action on a resolution establishing City of Wayne goals.
Among those already accomplished or in the process of being accomplished are the planning for another well, adjusting water rates to help with future water projects, the new City Hall/Police Relocation Project, using Keno funds to install baby changing tables in park restrooms, the sale of the lot at 400 Chicago Street, changing the council meeting dates to the first and third Monday of the month and ordinance clean-up.
Other long term goals yet to be discussed include the transferring of more city-owed property to the CRA for marketing/redevelopment, using Keno funds for repair the fence at the Bark Park; the possibility of having a transportation study complete in regard to Wayne Public Transit, the downtown (Highway 15) sidewalk and curb project and planning for a larger salt shed for the city.
Additional discussion was held at the meeting on the possible renovation of the apartment at the Wayne City Auditorium, the possibility of a new home for the Wayne Public Library and the city's options for the First National Bank of Omaha Building on East 10th Street. This includes reaching out to the community to gain input on uses and how/when to go about holding an election for sales tax funds for improvements.

Roger Protzman with JEO Consulting updated the council on the work that has been completed on the project. He said the plans call for contractors to be finished with the area near Wayne Junior-Senior High School before the start of the school year. He told the council that work is continuing on the installation of storm sewer pipes in the middle area of the project.
He also spoke on a change order in the amount of $6,440.00 due to the need for a larger pipe to complete work and the need to relocate a water line to come off the current water line in Western Ridge.
Council members postponed action on a contractor's pay application for $87,326.00 to Otte Construction for the Wayne Parks & Rec Maintenance Building Project.
It was noted that there are some issues that still need to be resolved and the engineer will be on-site on July 14 for a walk-through to establish a punch list before final completion.
Council members voted to move the regularly scheduled Monday, Sept. 1 meeting to Tuesday, Sept. 2. This is due to the Labor Day holiday.
In other action, council members approved the re-appointment of Mollie Young to the Library and the appointment of Dwaine Spieker to the Public Art Committee.
