A request to have an emotional support animal on the campus of Wayne State College, how to spend Keno funds and the status of the Wayne swimming pool were among the items on the agenda when the Wayne City Council met in regular session on Monday,
A request from Callie Jordan to keep an emotional support animal (pit bull) at Wayne State College was approved, contingent on getting approval from the Wayne State College Housing department.
Action was taken to allocate $40,000 in Keno funds to start planning for downtown right-of-way improvements.
Wayne Parks and Recreation Director Lowell Heggemeyer gave an update on the status of the Wayne swimming pool.
The Wayne Aquatic Center will now open on Monday, May 25 at 1:00 p.m. Due to the cold nights and below-average temperatures this week, the pool water has not warmed up enough yet for an enjoyable swimming experience.
Monday's meeting began with the appointment of Jordan Widner as fire chief for the Wayne Volunteer Fire Department. Widner has more than 17 years of experience on the department and has served as assistant fire chief for six years.
He replaces Phil Monahan, who served as chief for 14 years. Monahan, who has been on the Wayne Volunteer Fire Department since 2001, told the council he plans to stay on as a firefighter.
Several items on Monday's agenda involved the upcoming Wayne Chicken Show.
The Wayne City Council will next meet in regular session on Monday, June 1 at 5:30 p.m. in council chambers.
