Council discusses placement of gazebo

Posted

Considerable discussion was held during Monday's Wayne City Council meeting on the construction and location of a gazebo to promote community and peace.

Barbara Engebretsen, representing the Wayne Rotary Club, came before the council seeking permission to install a "Peace Pole" and gazebo at one of the parks in Wayne.

Discussion was held on the location of the gazebo, with Viken Park being the first choice. The exact location at the park would be determined by city staff as there are some drainage concerns. There is also the need to make sure it would not be located in an area close to the street as it (the street) is set to be re-located in the future.

A request to close off a portion of the east alley between First and Second Streets on Main Street was approved.

Lindsey Whitt is planning to hold a Maker's Market, similar to one held last fall and requested the alley be closed from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 25.

Annual reports were received from the Wayne Green Team and the Wayne Public Library.

The Wayne City Council will next meet in regular session on Monday, May 4  at 5:30 p.m. in council chambers.
