Information on what has been done in recent weeks and plans for the coming weeks in an attempt to gain public input on the future of the city-owned building at 1100 East 10th Street was presented during Monday's meeting of the Wayne City Council.
City Administrator Wes Blecke told the council that a group of 13 people are part of an advisory committee that met in July. Surveys were put together to gather community input. They are available on the city's website and paper copies, in both English and Spanish, can be found at the Wayne Public Library.
City Finance Director Beth Porter shared information with the council on budget that is being prepared for fiscal year 2026-2027.
The city is required to hold two public hearings before the budget is officially passed. These will be held during the month of September as the budget needs to be approved before Oct. 1.
Approval was given on the application for Bobby Bates to the Wayne Volunteer Fire Department as a cadet. Bates is currently a senior at Wayne High School.
Approval was given on the request of Lilian Haller to keep an emotional support bearded dragon in the dorm on the Wayne State College campus.
The Wayne City Council will hold a Mini Retreat at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 31 at 1100 East 10th Street. The next regular meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8 in council chambers. This is a change of day due to the Labor Day holiday on Monday, Sept. 7.
