Following his appointment as Wayne County Commissioner for District 2, Matt Eischeid resigned his position as Wayne City Council member for Ward 2 during Monday's regular meeting of council.
Eischeid has served as a council member for 12 years and said during this time he has "tried to be fair to everyone and I challenge you (council members) to do the same. I am proud of what the council has done in the time I have served. It has not always been easy, but we are representatives of the city first, and as such, we need to do what is good for the city."
Eischeid has also served as council president since Jill Brodersen was appointed mayor in April of 2025.
In other council action during Monday's meeting, council members approved a request from Wayne America, Inc. to waive the rental fee for the Wayne City Auditorium for Community Garage Sales on Friday and Saturday, March 6-7. Community members will be able to rent a space and sell items at the event and all fees collected to will donated to Haven House.
City Administrator Wes Blecke updated the council on potential legislation being discussed by the Nebraska Unicameral.
In other action, council members approved the appointment of Chris Rasmussen to the Wayne Housing Authority.
The Wayne City Council will next meet in regular session on Monday, March 2 at 5:30 p.m. in council chambers.
