Two of the Northeast Nebraska Crush youth baseball teams competed in Omaha over the Weekend.
During the Chris Gradoville Memorial Tournament, Crush 11u moved to 14-4 following a 3-1 finish as Crush 8u now sits 10-6 on the season following a 2-2 split.
For the Northeast Nebraska Crush 11u youth baseball team, May 17 wins were 10-0 over Fort Calhoun Pioneers 11U and 2-1 against the Panthers 11U. On Sunday, the Crush won 10-2 over White Legends 11U before suffering a 10-7 loss to Bennington Premier 11U Blue.
For the weekend, Becker Ekberg posted a team-high six hits (all singles); Ekberg, Brock Hansen and Barrett Hanson all had four RBI as Cruz Andrade crossed the plate six times.
Julian Contreras (87 pitches) worked four and two-thirds of the 20 innings appearing in two games and starting one. He allowed two runs off five hits while striking out and walking four batters each. Kase Brester (71) followed with four innings appearing in two games and starting one. He didn't allow a run or a hit, struck out eight batters and walked two.
The Northeast Nebraska Crush 8u youth baseball team began the weekend with a May 17 split winning 16-0 over Millard United Futures 7U - Chesnut but lost 10-9 to the Gretna Thunder Gold 8U. On Sunday, the Crush won 8-0 over Chris Gradoville Tourney before falling 11-9 against the Omaha Tigers Black 8U.
For the weekend, Kannon Kalin recorded a team-high 11 hits (six singles, four doubles, one triple); Luke Williamson drove in a team-high nine runs as Kalin crossed the plate seven times.
Kalin (95 pitches) worked five and a third of the 19 innings pitched appearing and starting in two games. He didn't allow a run off of two hits while striking out 12 batters, walking four and hitting one.
The Northeast Nebraska Crush youth baseball teams will next be in action with Crush 11u visiting River City Owls 11u in Council Bluffs, Iowa on Thursday, May 22. Crush 10u will return to action on Saturday, May 31 during a weekend tournament in Lincoln while Crush 8u will host Outlaws (Moore) 8u on Tuesday, May 27.
