CSC Academic All-District Women’s At-Large honors awarded to three Wildcat golfers

Three members of the Wayne State College women’s golf team were selected to the 2024 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District At-Large Women’s Team announced Tuesday morning and selected by Division II College Sports Communicators.  Senior Abbey Kurmel and junior Abbigail Brodersen are repeat selections while sophomore Saffire Sayre also collected Academic All-District honors.

Kurmel, a senior from Okemos, Michigan (Okemos HS), recorded a 3.89 grade point average majoring in graphic design.  On the course this season, she posted a scoring average of 80.18 (fourth-best in school history) and was a consistent finisher with six tournament finishes ranging from 10th to 20th place.  Kurmel finished 10th at the Saddlebrook/Walsh Spring Kickoff and tied for 12th at the NSIC Championships with rounds of 80-79-79 for a 54-hole score of 238.

Brodersen, a junior from Albion (Boone Central HS), maintains a 4.00 grade point average majoring in construction management/drafting and design.  She recorded a scoring average of 83.16 this season with one top-five and two top-10 finishes this season.  Brodersen was third at the Nebraska Intercollegiate with rounds of 76-82 and placed 10th overall at the CSP/MSU Fall Brawl in Wisconsin after shooting 81-78 for a 159.

Sayre, a sophomore from West Des Moines, Iowa (West Des Moines Valley HS), is majoring in applied mathematics and has a 4.00 grade point average.  This season, she produced an 81.32 scoring average with two top-10 finishes and four of her last five rounds to end the season shooting in the 70’s.  Sayre tied for fifth at the Nebraska Intercollegiate Invite and was eighth at the Saddlebrook/Walsh Spring Kickoff Meet.  She posted scores of 78 and 79 at the Wildcat Classic and ended the NSIC Championships with back-to-back 78’s to close the season.

Wayne State women’s golf finished the 2023-24 year with a fourth-place finish at the NSIC Championships in Missouri.
