Wayne State football coach Dan McLaughlin announced that Ben Curran has been named wide receivers coach for the Wildcat football program.

“We are excited to add Ben Curran to our coaching staff,” said McLaughlin. “Ben has extensive experience in the Northern Sun Conference, both as a successful player and then as a coach. He is experienced in preparing game plans and has been a play caller for a number of years. We are looking forward to his expertise and his teaching contributing to the success of Wildcat football.”

Curran brings five years of coaching experience in the NSIC to Wayne State, spending the previous three years at Upper Iowa and two as graduate assistant at St. Cloud State. While coaching at UIU, Curran was the wide receivers coach his first season and quarterbacks coach and play caller the last two seasons in Fayette. Each year, the Peacock offense ranked in the top half of the league in total offense while averaging over 425 yards per game each season.

At St. Cloud State, Curran coached wide receivers for two years that included a 12-2 record in 2013, advancing to the NCAA Division II quarterfinals. While at SCSU, Curran coached four All-NSIC wide receivers including one All-American.

Curran is a graduate of Upper Iowa where he was the starting quarterback for three seasons (2008-10). He was an All-NSIC honorable mention selection as a junior and ranks third in school history in passing yards (4,625), total offense (5,046 yds), completions (422) and attempts (753).

McLaughlin also announced the addition of Paul Thomas to the Wildcat staff for the 2017 season.  Thomas will serve as running backs coach. He was a graduate assistant running backs coach at Truman State (2013-15) and student assistant coach (running backs) at Missouri Valley College from 2010-13 and also served two years as offensive coordinator at Warsaw High School in Missouri (2015-16).
