David K. Podany, 68, of Allen, died Friday, Dec. 27, 2024 as a result of a car accident west of Jackson.

Funeral services will be on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Dixon with the Rev. Matthew Capadano and Rev. Jerry Connealy officiating.  Burial will be at the Stanton Cemetery in Stanton following the funeral luncheon. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Wayne with a Vigil service at 7 p.m.  Visitation will continue on Saturday, in Dixon, one hour prior to services. 

Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Laurel.

Pallbearers will be the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus.  Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren – Oliver, Max, Ruby, Lily, Charlotte, Elsie, Alyssa, Ava, Alex, and Emma.

David Kenneth Podany was born March 9, 1956 in Norfolk to Kenneth George and Lucille Theresa (Hunke) Podany.  He was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Stanton. Dave attended rural Stanton School District 28 from K-6th grade. He graduated from Stanton High School in 1974.  Dave attended college at UNL as a walk-on for the Nebraska Cornhusker football program. Dave went on to Wayne State College and received his Bachelor of Science degree and a Master’s degree in Business Administration.

Dave was involved in the family farm throughout his young life and remained involved in farming his entire life.  Dave married Mary Patton in 1978 to which two children were born – Matthew and Holly. Dave then married Mona (Ramona) Rae Randazzo on June 12, 1993 and celebrated 31 years together. 

Dave was always in the food processing business.  He started as an accountant and worked his way up to ControllerDave was very dedicated to his employers.  He started at Swift/Cudahy in Omaha, and from there went to IBP in Norfolk. IBP later changed to Tyson.  After this, Dave worked for John Morrell in Ohio for five years. A job opened up in Sioux City at Curly’s which excited Dave and Mona to be able to move back to Nebraska.  Dave enjoyed his job at Curly’s/Smithfield and had made many friends.  In the early 1990’s while they lived in Valley, NE, Dave had a part-time job at the dairy farm in Gretna.

Dave participated annually at the Cloisters on the Platte retreat since it was established.  He was very active at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Dixon, as a lector, EMHE, song leader, and served on several committees. Dave was a member of Father Kearn’s Council 8579 of the Knights of Columbus in Wayne where he served as Grand Knight and Trustee.  He was also a member of Msgr. Robert Burns Assembly 606 in Norfolk.  Dave served as District Deputy from 2018 to current for a number of State Deputies in our state.

Survivors include his wife, Mona, of Allen; son Matthew (Janine) Podany of Omaha, daughter Holly (Jonathon) Colling of Omaha; three step-children Jim (Dawn) Patten of Omaha, Tracy Coleman of Gretna, and Michelle Patten of West Virginia; 10 grandchildren - Oliver Colling, Max Colling, Ruby Colling, Lily Podany, Charlotte Podany, Elsie Podany; step-grandchildren Alyssa Patten, Ava Patten, Alex Patten, Emma Coleman; siblings LoAnn (Larry) Belz of Lincoln, Karan Lehmann of Cedar Bluffs, Marlene (Paul) Gottschall of Shelby, Diann (Mike) Marotz of Stanton, Cheryl Weatherholt of Stanton, Greg (Bonnie) Podany of Stanton; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents Kenneth and Lucille Podany; sisters Shelly Podany and Linda Stepanek; brothers-in-law Scott Weatherholt, Ken Lehman, and Vic Stepanek.
