Funeral services for David L. Kohl Sr., 54, of Hoskins, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Oct. 20 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Norfolk. Pastor Lee Weander will be officiating the service. Burial will be held at the Kohl Cemetery, south of Battle Creek. Visitation will be 4 - 7 p.m., Thursday, also at Our Savior Lutheran Church. Honors will be conducted by the Sons of the American Legion and the American Legion Riders.

David died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2023 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. 

Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Norfolk is in charge of the arrangements.

David L. Kohl Sr. was born Sept. 5, 1969 in Norfolk to Larry and RoseAnn (Riebschlager) Kohl. He attended grade school at a country school at District 97 in Madison County and then graduated from Newman Grove High School in 1988. He lived in Humphrey and worked at Wedekind Manufacturing and then later lived in Leigh and worked for Mike DeLoy with his farming operation. David then started working at Bomgaars in Norfolk and moved to Hoskins in 2016. David married Linda Andersen on July 28, 2018 in Hoskins and the couple resided in Hoskins. David was still currently working at Bomgaars. 

David has been a member of the Sons of the American Legion since 2000 and from 2016 to 2018 he served as the Sr. Vice Commander of the Norfolk SQ 16 Squadron. He then served as Commander from 2019 to 2022 and was currently serving as Commander until 2024. He had also served on the Sons of The American Legion Detachment of Nebraska as Assistant Sergeant at Arms and was currently serving as the Sergeant at Arms. 

He was also on the Children Youth Committee serving from 2016 to present. This year he was appointed to be an assistant representative at the Norfolk Veterans Home. David joined the Sons under his father who was a member of the American Legion Post 73 in Newman Grove. 

He enjoyed collecting farm toys, being active with the Sons of the American Legion and the American Legion Riders, and lending a helping hand to anybody that needed it. He also enjoyed delivering ice and being known as “Ice Man.”

Survivors include his spouse Linda Kohl of Hoskins, sons David Kohl Jr. (Josh) of Neligh, Andrew (Kohl) Frisch of Columbus; mother, RoseAnn Kohl of Newman Grove; siblings, Donna (John) Taylor of Norfolk, Kathy Swanson of Florida; nieces, nephews, cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father Larry; maternal and paternal grandparents. 

Casket bearers will be Dean Dederman, Frank Riebschlager, Kelvin Bonner, Alex Bonner, Charles Petzel and Brian Dieter. Condolences may be expressed to the family on-line at www.stonacekfuneralchapel.com.
