Several area teams highlighted the first day of the Class B-3 Girls District which included both Winside and Wakefield.
From Pierce Public Schools, 32 girls wrestling teams began opening day competition on Friday.
The Winside girls accumulated a point from their two wrestlers as Wakefield totaled 41.5 points from their nine wrestlers to sit fourth after day one.

Day one team leaders are Pierce with 61 points, ahead of West Holt (53) as well as Crofton-Bloomfield in third (45). Elkhorn Valley was in fifth (40.5).
Both of Winside’s wrestlers advanced to day two with Raylyn Behmer (115) sitting 1-1 and Lilly Umbarger (145) at 0-1.
Wakefield girls still competing into the second day include Erica Chicaj (110) at 1-1; Katelyn Walsh (115) at 2-1; Naomi Nelson (135) at 2-0; Jazmynn Scott (155) in 2-1, Tiffany Chase (170) at 2-0; Natalee Nelson (190) at 1-0 and Milleny Romero Hernandez (235) at 0-1.
Others who ended their season on Friday were Maria Perez (120) finishing 1-2 as Kira Centurion (125) went 0-2.
