Trevor DeBoer needed just 98 pitches to shut down Thurston-Cuming County on Tuesday, tossing a four-hitter to help Wayne to a 6-0 win at Hank Overin Field.
Wayne scored single runs in the third and fourth innings before putting the game out of reach with a four-run sixth inning to improve to 4-3 on the season.
Zane Jackson tripled to get Wayne’s first run of the game going. Kaleb Anderson came on as a courtesy runner and scored on a Gunnar Jorgensen single to make it a 1-0 game. Wayne scored again in the fourth when Reid Korth’s double brought home Brennan O’Reilly, who reached on an error.
The Blue Devils broke the game open in the sixth. Josh Lutt walked in a run, scoring Victor Kniesche, and Korth scored on a Jacob Kneifl groundout before Hagan Miller capped the game with a two-run single to left, scoring Lutt and Blake Bartos.
That was more than enough for DeBoer, who struck out 12 and walked only one in his complete-game gem. Of his 98 pitches, 72 went for strikes.
Korth had two of Wayne’s seven hits, including a double. Jackson tripled and Miller, Jorgensen, DeBoer and Lutt each added hits.
Wayne will host Platteview on Thursday before traveling to Norfolk on Friday.
