Wayne bowlers began their season with a road dual at Norfolk Catholic/Lutheran High Northeast, Wayne girls and boys wrestlers traveled to Wisner for a triangular, Wakefield girls and boys basketball began their season with home action, Wakefield girls and boys wrestling were on the road and home as Tri County Northeast girls and boys basketball visited Randolph all to start the 2025-26 NSAA winter sports action. Kyler Parker from Wayne is also in his second year swimming in a co-op for the Blue Devils with Norfolk High boys swimming.
From King's Lanes in Norfolk, the Wayne High girls won 17-4 (pinfall of 700-565, 635-592; baker 125-103) while the Blue Devil boys won 18-3 (pinfall of 956-876, 1051-851; baker 224-167).
Madi Korth (135/119) and McKaeya Becker (team-best 172/137) were both 2-0 on the night for the Blue Devil girls.
Dylan Jensen (213/200) and Blake Smith (175/team-best 244) were both 2-0 for the Wayne boys.
The Wayne High girls and boys bowlers will next travel to Columbus for a double dual on Dec. 9 competing against Lexington and Lincoln High starting at 10 a.m.
In Wisner, the Wayne girls and boys wrestlers competed in the Wisner-Pilger Triangular.
During girls action, Wayne won both their duals over Summerland (60-24) and the NEN co-op of Wisner-Pilger/Pender (51-24). Summerland defeated NEN (60-18).
Blue Devils used a trio of wrestlers who went 2-0 in matches contested from Reagan McManigal (125) by fall (0:47) against Summerland and by fall (0:56) against NEN; Megan Magnuson (135) by fall (0:58) against Summerland and fall (1:39) against NEN as well as Anna Naeve (145) by fall (4:36) against Summerland and by fall (0:33) against NEN.
Zoe Bolles (170) wrestled one match winning by fall (0:50) against Summerland.
Also, Josie Haglund (100) won by decision (23-22) against NEN and by forfeit against Summerland; Edmy Balux (105) won by fall (2:33) against NEN and by forfeit against Summerland; Nyla Bolles (140) won by fall (0:50) against Summerland and by forfeit over NEN; Ivette Ozuna (155) won by fall (3:10) against Summerland and by forfeit over NEN as well as Alexandria Ziska (170) by fall (0:35) against NEN and by forfeit at 190 over Summerland.
From the boys competition, Wayne won 66-18 over Summerland followed by a 51-30 victory against Wisner-Pilger. Summerland won 41-33 over Wisner-Pilger.
Two Blue Devils went 2-0 in contested matches being Emmanuel Gonzalez (113) by fall (5:19) against Summerland and by fall (1:04) over Wisner-Pilger as well as Ethan Gregory (132) by fall (1:25) against Summerland and by fall (0:23) over Wisner-Pilger.
Also, Grady Maas (106) won by major decision (10-0) over Wisner-Pilger and by forfeit against Summerland; Isaiah Zarate (138) won by fall (1:21) against Summerland and by forfeit over Wisner-Pilger; Grant Maas (165) won by fall (0:35) against Wisner-Pilger and by forfeit over Summerland as well as Taven Ocampo (175) won by fall (2:35) against Summerland and by forfeit over Wisner-Pilger. Alvaro Archundia (120) and Gregoria Benito (126) both scored two forfeit victories on the night.
The Wayne girls and boys will both be in action on Dec. 5 with the Blue Devil girls competing in the Doane Invite in Crete (11 a.m.) and boys at the Lakeview Invite in Columbus (12:30 p.m.).
From Wakefeld's main gym, the Trojans hosted Pender for basketball action. The Wakefield girls suffered a 69-9 loss while the Trojan boys dropped a 50-30 decision to both start their season at 0-1.
Next up for Wakefield will be road games at Howells-Dodge (in Dodge) starting with JV action at 4 p.m.
Also in Wakefield, the Wakefield boys wrestling team lost 50-18 against the Pendragons. Trojan wins over Pender were posted by Hayden McAfee (120) by fall (4:57) as well as Baldwin Garcia (106) and Ruben Vega (175) both by forfeit.
The Wakefield boys wrestlers are back in action on Saturday during the Howells-Dodge Invite starting at 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 6.
In Tekamah, the Wakefield girls wrestlers competed in the Tekamah-Herman Quad. The Trojans lost 33-18 to Stanton; won 48-0 over Homer and lost 54-12 against the host Tigers.
Wakefield's Arianna Juarez (125) picked up the lone contested win on the night by fall (4:53) against Tekamah-Herman and scored team points by forfeit over Homer. She suffered an 11-10 loss by decision against Stanton.
Other top points were scored by Natalee Nelson (190) winning by forfeit all three times as Jennifer Lopez (115) and Yami Gomez (130) added two forfeit victories each.
Wakefield girls wrestlers will travel to Lyons-Decatur Northeast on Dec. 5 during a road dual starting at 4:30 p.m.
From Randolph, the Tri County Northeast girls basketball team began their season with a 56-19 victory while the Wolfpack boys (0-1) lost 56-50.
The Allen/Emerson-Hubbard co-op will return to action on Dec. 5 hosting Bloomfield in Allen starting at 4 p.m. for JV action.
The Norfolk swim team visited South Sioux City for a road dual. The Panther boys won 141-16.
Kyler Parker posted the top time for Norfolk in the 100 backstroke winning in 1:01.73 while finishing second during the 200 individual medley (2:13.97). He also swam a split on the winning 200 free relay team (1:38.57) in 24 seconds flat and swam the fly split in 25.61 on the winning 200 medley relay (1:47.97).
The Norfolk swim team will next travel to the Hastings Invite on Dec. 6 starting at 9 a.m.
