For the second time in three days, Wayne State thrower Michaela Dendinger missed the finals by mere inches at the NCAA Div. II Indoor National Track and Field Championships in Birmingham, Ala.
The sophomore missed qualifying for the finals in the shot put by 2 3/4 inches, finishing 10th in the event on Saturday. She had a best throw of 47-2 1/4 on her first throw of the preliminaries and had a 44-6 1/4 effort before fouling on her final attempt. A throw of 47-5 was needed to qualify for the finals.
Dendinger also placed 10th in the weight throw on Friday, missing the finals by four inches. It was her second trip to nationals in three years in both events.
