Wayne State college junior thrower Michaela Dendinger was named the NSIC Women’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week following her performance over the weekend at the SMSU Mustang Open in Marshall, Minn.
Dendinger recorded one NCAA automatic mark and one NCAA provisional qualifying mark while winning one event and placing second in two other events.
She won the shot put with a personal-best and NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 51 feet, 3 1/2 inches, which ranks as the third-best mark in NCAA Div. II. She also placed second in the discus with an NCAA automatic qualifying mark of 167-5, the seventh-best mark in NCAA Div. II. Dendinger closed out the busy weekend with a second-place mark in the hammer throw at 192-1, an event where she already has the top mark in NCAA Div. II at 204-4.
Wayne State will compete this weekend at the NSIC/MIAA Challenge in Maryville, Mo.
