Dendinger gets NCAA automatic mark at Wildcat Classic

Michaela Dendinger, winner of the shot put and discus with NCAA provisional qualifying marks, added an NCAA automatic mark with a second-place finish Sunday in the hammer throw on the final day of the Wildcat Outdoor Track and Field Classic held at LeRoy Simpson Track.

Dendinger completed her stellar weekend with an NCAA automatic qualifying mark of 204 feet, 4 inches that ranks No. 1 in NCAA Div. II. Former Wildcat All-American Carly Fehringer won the event with a new meet record of 214 feet while competing as an unattached competitor.

In men’s action, Derek Lahm took second in the javelin (154-10) followed by Travis Eller in sixth place (133-4), Cody Kralicek seventh (121-3) and Robert Sullivan in eighth at 116-11. Matthew Nemec also recorded a seventh-place effort in the hammer throw at 169-3.

Wayne State will be in action again on Saturday, April 1 competing in the Emporia State Relays.
