Wayne State senior thrower Michaela Dendinger was named the Northern Sun Conference Women’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week for the 10th consecutive time dating back to last season.
The Coleridge native took first place in two events and second in another at Sunday’s Doane University Jim Dutcher Invite. She posted a season-best mark of 54-2 1/2 to win the shot put, which is an NCAA automatic qualifying mark and the top throw in NCAA Div. II this season. Dendinger also won the discus (165-1) and was second in the hammer throw, surpassing the 200-foot mark at 201-3.
Dendinger has the top throw this season in NCAA Div. II in the hammer throw (205-10) and in the shot put (54-2 1/2) and is fourth nationally in the discus at 175-0. The marks in each event are all NCAA automatic qualifying marks.
Wayne State is scheduled to compete on Wednesday at the Mount Marty Invite in Yankton and the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa on Friday and Saturday.
