Dendinger, Metz highlight WSC effort at Sioux City Relays

Michaela Dendinger won the discus and placed second in the hammer throw and shot put while Brady Metz won the triple jump to lead the Wayne State College track and field teams Friday and Saturday at the Sioux City Relays, held at Olsen Stadium in Sioux City, Iowa.

Dendinger captured first in the discus at 164 feet, 5 inches, placed second in the hammer throw (197-10) and in the shot put (51-11 1/4). Tia Jones recorded a fourth-place finish in the shot put at 45-0 1/4, Kacie O’Connor was fourth in the discus (141-4) while junior Tessa Ives was 10th in the hammer throw at 140-7.

Other Wildcat women finishers included Alexis Oswald taking seventh in the 5,000-meter run (20:52.95) while Mary Alderson was ninth in the 200-meter dash in 26.55 seconds.

For the Wildcat men, Metz notched a first-place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 47-0 3/4.

Jordan Zautke was fourth in the 200 meters (22.29) while fifth-place finishes were posted by Habib Jallow in the 400-meter hurdles (56.32) and Corbin Lehn in the 10,000-meter run (33:33.64).

In field events, Richard Sweeney was fifth in the hammer throw (167-3) with Matthew Nemec eighth at 161-3.

Josh Spenner came in seventh in the pole vault (15-0 1/4) while Isaias Solorio was 10th in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 34:28.71.

Wayne State will next compete on Tuesday at the South Dakota Twilight Meet in Vermillion starting at 2 p.m.
