Dendinger qualifies for nationals, Kaup hits provisional at Wildcat Classic

Wayne State senior thrower Michaela Dendinger posted two automatic and one provisional NCAA qualifying mark while graduate student sprinter Mary Alderson won the 200 and 400-meter dashes to lead the Wayne State College women’s track and field team Thursday afternoon at the season opening Wayne State Outdoor Track and Field Classic at LeRoy Simpson Track in Wayne.

Dendinger posted NCAA automatic qualifying marks with a first place finish in the shot put (51-11) and a second place mark in the hammer throw at 200-11. She also won the discus with an NCAA provisional mark of 161-7.

Alderson recorded first place finishes in the 200-meter dash (25.29) and 400-meter dash in 58.82 seconds.

Other Wildcat first place finishes were posted by Morgan Shearer in the long jump (17-2 3/4) and Sophie Noecker in the 100-meter hurdles (16.69).

Wayne State also had two other NCAA provisional qualifying marks as sophomore Tia Jones placed second in the shot put (45-1) and freshman Jadin Wagner third with a mark of 44-9.

The Wildcats also saw Kenzie Sullivan finish third in the discus (142-5) with senior Kacie O’Connor next in fourth at 135-8.

Second place finishes were recorded by Sophie Noecker in the long jump (16-7 1/4), Hanna Lazure in the high jump (4-11 3/4), Molly McCartney in the 1,500-meter run (5:17.40) and Alyssa Kimpson in the 100-meter dash (12.97).

Sprinter Clay Kramper posted wins in the 100 and 200-meter dashes while sophomore thrower Dylan Kaup hit an NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the hammer throw to lead the Wayne State men’s team.

Kramper posted winning times of 10.96 seconds in the 100-meter dash and 21.78 seconds in the 200-meter dash to pace the Wildcats.

Habib Jallow had a first-place finish in the 110-meter high hurdles in 15.32 seconds while the 1,600-meter relay team of Preston Davis, Kyle Lowe, Jallow and Brandon Marker crossed the tape first in a time of 3:32.81.

In the men’s hammer throw, sophomore Dylan Kaup had an NCAA provisional qualifying mark with a top throw of 180-1. Cade Kalkowski was eighth (174-9) with Matthew Nemec ninth at 172-2.

Second place finishes went to Jack Doughty in the 5,000-meter run (16:19.00), Habib Jallow in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 55.14 and Braxton Adams in the 100-meter dash (11.05).

Preston Davis was third in the 110-meter high hurdles (16.04) and the 400-meter hurdles (56.10).

Derek Lahm had a fourth place finish in the javelin throw (158-7) with Brady Metz taking fourth in the long jump at 22-4 1/4 while Isaias Solorio finished fourth in the 10,000-meter run at 35:25.84.

Wayne State will compete again on Friday, March 30 in Marshall, Minn., at the Mustang Open.
