Dendinger takes third in hammer throw at Drake Relays

Wayne State senior Michaela Dendinger placed third in a stellar field of 25 Div. I competitors Saturday morning in the hammer throw at the 109th Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa. 

Dendinger had four of her six throws all over 190 feet, with her top mark coming on the third attempt in finals with a throw of 199-8. North Dakota State’s Maddy Niles won the hammer throw at 205-8, with Kent State’s Gabrielle Figueroa in second at 200-5. 

On Friday, Dendinger came in fourth place in the shot put (51-8 1/4) and 12th in the discus (148-5) as one of the few Div. II athletes competing in the meet.

Wayne State will compete as a team again on Saturday, May 5 at the Nebraska Invite in Lincoln.
