Michaela Dendinger beat a number of Div. I throwers in the weight throw to highlight Wayne State’s effort in the USD Last Chance Meet Friday in Vermillion, S.D.
Dendinger won the weight throw with a best effort of 59 feet, and was also second in the shot at 46-5 1/4. Tessa Ives was third (49-6 1/4) and Tia Jones was seventh (45-8 1/2) in the weight throw, and Jones finished fifth in the shot put (41-8 1/2).
In running events, Mary Alderson was third in the 400 (1:00.32) and Melissa Kroll was fourth (1:01.24). Shelby Poell finished third in the high jump (4-11).
Jack Doughty highlighted the men’s effort with a first in the 3,000-meter run (9:33.62) with Isaias Solorio finishing second (9:43.6).
Habib Jallow was second in the 400 (52.71) followed by Travis Ellier (53.18), Brandon Marker (53.99) and Nathan Pearson (54.01). Kak Ayaj took third in the 800 (2:00.71) while Nick Fly came in fourth in the mile run (4:34.31). Alvyns Alcenrod was third in the 60 meter dash (7.09) with teammate Braxton Adams right behind in fourth at 7.10. Jordan Zautke posted a third in the 200 at 23.49 seconds.
In field events, Matthew Nemec was fourth in the weight throw (53-5 3/4) while freshman Cade Kalkowski was fifth at 52-11 1/2. In the shot put, Jayle Hinkle took fifth at 44-11.
At the Husker Tuneup Meet in Lincoln, freshman Riana Noelle had a sixth in the triple jump at 33-6 3/4 for the Wildcat women.
In men’s action, Brady Metz scored a first in the triple jump (46-11 1/2). Josh Spenner came in eighth in the pole vault (14-10 1/4) and Nick Schmit was 12th in the 800 (1:59.78).
Wayne State will compete at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 24-25 in Mankato, Minn.
