Wayne State thrower Michaela Dendinger was named the NSIC Women’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week Tuesday afternoon for the third consecutive week after her efforts at last week’s Loper Invitational in Kearney.
The WIldcat junior posted the top mark in the shot put in NCAA Div. II so far this spring with a first place mark of 52 feet, 1 3/4 inches, followed by a second-place finish in the discus (165-0) and a third in the hammer throw (203-1). She has NCAA automatic qualifying marks in all three events and is ranked first in the shot put, second in the hammer throw and fifth in the discus.
Dendinger’s efforts have helped put the Wayne State women’s track and field team in the No. 21 position in the latest team computer rankings by the U.S. Track and Field & Cross Country Coaches Association.
Wayne State competes Friday and Saturday at the Sioux City Relays.
