Denginer, Bardou, lead WSC track at South Dakota meet

Michaela Dendinger and Antoine Bardou had impressive efforts to highlight Wayne State’s effort Saturday in the Dakota Reality Alumni Track and Field Meet at the Dakota Dome in Vermillion, S.D.

In men’s action, Bardou finished third out of a field of 29 runners, most from Div. I, in the mile run with a school-record time of 4:08.27, betting his own mark set two weeks ago by more than four seconds. His time is the ninth-fastest time in Div. II.

Clay Kramper had the best effort of the day for the Wayne State men, finishing fourth in the 200 in 22.59 seconds. Josh Spenner also finished fourth in the pole vault at 14-7 1/4. Braxton Adams was fifth in the 60-meter dash in 7.04 seconds.

Other men’s finishes included Matt Nemec (6th, 53-9 3/4), Cade Kalkowski (8th, 52-5 1/4) and Richard Sweeney (9th, 48-4 3/4) in the weight throw; Jayle Hinkle in the shot put (10th, 41-4 1/4); Brandon Marker (7th, 52.82), Habib Jallow (9th, 53.68) and Kak Ayai (10th, 53.93) in the 400-meter dash; and Nick Fly (6th, 2:02.01) and Nathan Pearson (7th (2:02.95) in the 800-meter run.

In women’s action, Michaela Dendinger finished fourth out of a field of 23 in the weight throw and was also sixth in the shot put in a field of talented Div. I throwers. Her top mark in the weight throw was 60-3 1/4, while she went 48-5 1/4 in the shot put.

Also posting solid marks were Melissa Kroll in the 400 (5th, 1:00.45) and 200 (11th, 27.25), Mary Alderson (3rd, 1:41.52) and Josephine Peitz (6th, 1:51.41) in the 600, Shelby Poell in the long jump (5th, 16-2 1/4), Shelby Roth in the high jump (6th, 5-1), Tessa Ives (6th, 49-4 1/2) and Tia Jones (8th, 47-7) in the weight throw and Jones in the shot put (9th, 39-9 1/4).

Several Wildcats also competed in the Frank Sevigne Husker Invite in Lincoln, with Derek Lahm posting the top finish with a 14th-place mark of 22-6 1/4 in the long jump. Brady Metz was 22nd in the event at 21-7 1/4.

Wayne State will be at the Concordia Invite in Seward on Friday, Feb. 10.
