Dirt Devil 10s Red wins Logan Valley League Tournament going 5-0, Dirt Devil 12s suffer first round loss

Two Dirt Devil summer softball teams closed out their respective Logan Valley League Tournaments on June 23.

From Fremont, Dirt Devil 10s Red won two more games to secure the Logan Valley League 10U title while the Dirt Devil 12s went 0-1 during their single elimination tournament due to Saturday weather.

Dirt Devil 10s Red (37-3-1) opened Sunday afternoon with a 4-2 win against #2 Fremont Force – McClain before closing out the tournament with a 5-2 victory over Fremont Force – McClain in the finals.

In the first win over Fremont, Dirt Devil 10s Red led 2-0 after the first inning followed by Fremont Force scoring once in the second. After a scoreless third, the Dirt Devils used a 2-1 advantage in the fourth to hold onto the 4-2 victory and win the hit department, 2-1.

Abbey Kowalewski singled, drove in a run and scored while Zoe Myer singled and scored.

Rebecca Fowle accounted for a RBI and run scored as Nora Heithold scored.

Harper Hanson (97 pitches) picked up the win in four innings allowing two runs (one earned) off one hit while striking out 10 batters, walking seven and hitting two. MaKenna Williamson (12) worked an inning striking out two batters.

During the championship victory over Fremont, Dirt Devil 10s Red opened with a three-run first inning before Fremont Force – McClain answered with two runs in the second. The Dirt Devils scored twice more in the third to win 5-2 as both teams finished with four hits.

Hanson singled twice, drove in a run and scored while Williamson singled, drove in a run and scored.

Fowle singled and scored; Kiersten Allen accounted for a RBI as Heithold and Kowalewski both scored.

Williamson (74 pitches) picked up the complete game victory in three and two-thirds allowing two earned runs off four hits while striking out seven batters, walking three and hitting one.

For the Logan Valley League Tournament, Dirt Devil 10s Red were led by Zoe Myer with seven hits (one double), five RBI and seven runs scored.

Williamson (252 pitches) pitched in four of the seven games working 12 and two-thirds allowing eight runs (seven earned) off six hits while striking out 23 batters, walking 14 and hitting two. Hanson (179) worked the other eight and two-thirds appearing in three of the seven games allowing three runs (one earned) off one hit while striking out 23 batters, walking 12 and hitting two.

Dirt Devil 10s Red were scheduled to host Schuyler on June 24 but the games were called off due to heat.

Logan Valley League

12U Tournament.

The Dirt Devil 12s (13-12) suffered a 6-3 loss against Arlington during the single elimination Logan Valley League Tournament due to Saturday weather.

Neither team scored the opening two innings until the Dirt Devil 12s brought in two runs in the home half of the third. Arlington answered with two of their own runs in the fourth before outscoring the Dirt Devils, 4-1 in the fifth to win 6-3 despite the Dirt Devil 12s winning the hit department, 8-0.

Lucille Ocampo singled and doubled while Chloe Kai singled twice.

Reagan McManigal singled and scored twice while Avery Gubbels singled and scored as Hadley Dunklau and Sadi Fredrickson both singled.

Dunklau (80 pitches) suffered the loss in four innings allowing three runs (two earned) while striking out two batters, walking eight and hitting one. Ocampo (25) worked two-thirds of an inning allowing two runs (one earned) while walking three batters. Fredrickson (four) recorded the final out via strikeout.

The Dirt Devil 18s (10-8) will now compete in the York Tournament this weekend.
