Dirt Devil 12s, 10s Red, 10s Black comopete in Kelly's Spring Swing Tourney

Three of the youth softball teams from Wayne began a busy schedule of weekend tournaments with a trip over to Norfolk.

From Ta-Ha-Zouka Park, the Dirt Devil 12s have now competed in 11 games with two tournaments under their belt (Arlington Tourney May 9 - 11),

During the Kelly's Spring Swing Softball Tournament, the Dirt Devils finished 3-2 on the weekend to now sit 5-6 on the season.

During the 10 & under division, Dirt Devil 10s Red improved to 6-3 on the season after going 2-3 on the weekend as Dirt Devil 10s Black now sits 0-5-1 on the season following a 0-1-3 record in Norfolk between May 16 - 18.

The Dirt Devil 12s started on May 16 with a 12-3 victory over Pacers 12u followed by a Saturday split with an 8-1 loss to Kelly' Fastpitch Carpenter 12u and 16-3 win over TSC Sundogs. Moving into Sunday's Gold Bracket, the Dirt Devils won 6-4 against Kelly's Fastpitch Werner 12u before suffering a loss of 8-2 with the Sioux City Futures one win shy from the finals.

For the weekend, Harper Hanson posted a team-high six hits (four singles, one double, one triple); Sadi Fredrickson drove in the most runs (four) as both Zoe Myer and Kiley Duitcher crossed the plate six times.

Hanson (187 pitches) worked 10 of the 18 innings pitched appearing in three games and starting two. She allowed nine runs (eight earned) off 12 hits while striking out 13 batters, walking seven and hitting three.

Dirt Devil 10s Black finished runner-up in the Silver Division after starting with losses of 13-4 to Crofton Maroon 10u (May 16) and 7-3 against Hastings Heat 10u (May 17). The Dirt Devils then won 9-6 over Norfolk Golden Girls Luebe 10u (May 17) and 12-9 against Norfolk Golden Girls Luebe 10u (May 18) to compete in the Silver Bracket finals. Dirt Devil 10s Red suffered a 10-2 loss to Titan Nation 10u to finish second.

For the weekend, Delilah Lueth (five singles, two doubles, one triple) and Caroline Endicott (six singles, two triples) both recorded eight hits; Endicott accounted for a team-high seven RBI as Lueth scored seven runs.

Brynlee Suhr (130 pitches) worked four and a third of the 11 and two-thirds innings appearing in two games while strarting one. She allowed nine runs (eight earned) off four hits while striking out two batters, walking 14 and hitting two. Finn Mueller posted the most pitches of 166 in three and a third innings appearing in three games and starting two. She allowed 16 earned runs off six hits while striking out 10 batters, walking 16 and hitting four.

Dirt Devil 10s Black also qualified for the Silver Bracket during the Kelly's Spring Swing Tourney. The Dirt Devils started May 17 with a 10-10 tie against Kelly's Fastpitch Dohmen 9u followed by back-to-back 12-0 losses to Hastings Bombers 10u and Columbus Havoc Dunn 9u. On Sunday, Dirt Devil 10s Black lost 10-3 to Norfolk Golden Girls Luebe 10u in the Silver Bracket.

For the weekend, most of their runs were scored on walks.

Lennox Ruwe pitched an inning and Adalyn Brokaw finished game one while the MVP was awarded to Brynn Virgil. In game two, Maggie Sorenson pitched the whole game.  Skylar Jones made contact with ball but got out at first.  MVP awarded to Maggie Sorenson. Game three saw Sorenson pitch one inning, Adalyn Brokaw pitched one inning and struck out two as Bexley Sutter pitched an inning. The MVP was awarded to Harper Rockhill. In game four, Brokaw pitched one inning as Sorenson finished out the game with five strikeouts. The Dirt Devils had some girls make contact with the ball but got thrown out.

More weeknight games were being played on May 20 for the Dirt Devil softball team. The next tournament being May 23 - 25 in Wahoo being the WDSA Memorial Tournament for the two older teams (14s and 16/18s).
