Dirt Devil 12s fall in gold bracket semifinals

A Dirt Devil softball team advanced to the Gold Division bracket falling one game shy of the finals.

From the Summer Sports Complex, the Dirt Devil Invite was held May 30 - June 1 where the Dirt Devil 12s went 2-2 on the weekend.

Friday night action showcased an 8-7 win by the Dirt Devils over Sioux City Futures - Felts 12u followed by a Saturday split with a 7-0 loss to TH Tigers Purple 12u and a 12-2 victory against Vermillion Flamez 12u. On Sunday, Dirt Devil 12s suffered a 5-4 loss to Kelly's Fastpitch - Carpenter 12u in the Gold Division semifinal.

The Dirt Devils are now 10-8-1 on the season.

Leaders at the plate were Penelope Zavada-Cupp with six hits (four singles, two doubles), Sadi Fredrickson added five hits (three singles, two doubles) as four hits were posted by MaKenna Williamson (all singles) and Willa Ruth (three singles, one triple).

Harper Hanson drove in a team-high six runs followed by Kenna Halle with four RBI.

Zoe Myer and Fredrickson both led the team in runs scored with four as three runs crossed the plate each for Zavada-Cupp, Williamson and Hanson.

Hanson (163 pitches) worked eight of the 16 innings starting two games. She allowed 11 runs (seven earned) off 13 hits while striking out six batters, walking nine and hitting one.

Williamson (102) pitched six innings appearing in two games and starting one. She allowed four earned runs off 11 hits while striking out eight batters and hitting two.

An upcoming weekend tourney will be the 12C Districts held in Blair June 6 - 8. The Dirt Devil 12s will open the 37-team, double elimination tournament against Bennington Elite - Hammes 11u at 6 p.m. on Friday.
