Dirt Devil 12's split with Columbus

The Wayne Dirt Devil 12-under team split a pair of games with the Columbus Bullets on Thursday.

In action against the 11-under Columbus team, Wayne lost a wild back-and-forth affair 13-11 as Columbus scored three in the bottom of the third to get the win.

Wayne took a 3-0 lead early in the game, highlighted by an RBI double by Brooklyn Kruse, but Columbus came back with eight runs in the bottom of the inning to take the lead.

Trailing 10-4 in the third, Wayne scored seven runs to take the lead. Back-to-back RBI singles by Logan Miller and Hannah Gubbels tied the game at 10-10, and Gubbels later scored on a passed ball to give Wayne the lead.

Columbus came back with three runs in the bottom of the inning, and the game ended on the time limit, giving the Bullets the wild win.

Gubbels had two hits and two RBI’s and also scored two runs for the Dirt Devils. Hope O’Reilly, Kendall Dorey and Brianna Nissen each scored two runs and Kruse and O’Reilly both had doubles.

In the second game, the Dirt Devils shut out the 12-under Bullets team 10-0, thanks to a one-hit shutout by pitcher Kendall Dorey, who struck out 12 and walked three in the win.

RBI singles by Miller and Nissen highlighted a five-run fourth inning for Wayne to give them the lead. They would add five more in the sixth, with Miller slashing a two-run single and Courtney Brink and Virginia Kniesche adding RBI singles.

Nissen, Kruse and Miller each had two hits to lead the Dirt Devils. Nissen, Miller and Liberty Titiml each scored two runs and Miller had three RBI’s.

The 6-1 Dirt Devils play in the Dirt Devil Invitational this weekend.
