Dirt Devil 16/18s along with the Dirt Devil 14s competed in the WDSA Memorial Tournament hosted by Wahoo May 23 - 25.
The Dirt Devil 16/18s went 0-3 on the weekend. On Saturday, the Dirt Devils lost 2-1 to Shockwave Prime 16u followed by a 7-3 loss to NE Quakes - Cooley 15u and closed out the weekend with a 2-1 decision to Nebraska Quakes Harrington 18u to fall to 3-4 overall.
Leaders at the plate for the Dirt Devil 16/18s were Reagan McGuire with four hits (three singles, one double) along with Lilly Johnson (one single, one double) and Jordyn Gamble (two singles) with two hits each. Anna Dutcher added two RBI and Gamble drove in one run. Single runs were scored by Johnson, Dutcher, Reagan McGuire, Gamble and Lily Gubbels.
Gamble (139 pitches) worked eight innings in the circle starting two games. She allowed four runs (one earned) off eight hits while striking out 16 batters and walking three. Kinnley McGuire (52) worked four and a third starting one game. She allowed seven runs (one earned) off four hits while striking out three batters and hitting two.
Also in Wahoo, the Dirt Devil 14s went 1-2 on the weekend. The Dirt Devils started with a 4-3 victory over Auburn Adrenaline 14u on Saturday followed by losses of 9-0 to WDSA 14u (Wahoo) and 13-3 against Venom Bartling 14u. The Devil 14s are now 1-4 on the season.
The Dirt Devils were led by Sidney Nelson with three hits (one single, two doubles) followed by Elizabeth Hix with two singles. Hix added two RBI as Nelson led the Dirt Devils with two runs scored.
Lucille Ocampo (90 pitches) worked four and two-thirds appearing in two games. She allowed nine runs (four earned) off five hits while striking out one batter, walking four and hitting two. Olivia Brandow (128) worked four and two-thirds starting two games. She allowed nine runs (six earned) off four hits while striking out six batters, walking eight and hitting one.
Upcoming this weekend will be the Dirt Devil Invite May 30 - June 1.
Dirt Devil 16/18s will open Friday night against Kelly's Fastpitch 16u - Davis at 7:30 p.m. from the Wayne Softball Complex followed by Saturday pool play games at the Pete Chapman Softball Complex (WSC campus) at 10 a.m. against Prodigy 18u - K Johnson and 5:30 p.m. at Wayne State College against Cavalry 16u Brabec. The Gold and Silver single elimination brackets will open Sunday at Wayne State College.
Dirt Devil 14s will first play at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at the Summer Sports Complex against Kelly's Fastpitch 14u - Fite followed by Saturday games at the complex against Shockwave 14u Black at 11:30 a.m. and Blair Chaos Chance at 5:30 p.m. Gold and Silver single elimination brackets will open Sunday at the Summer Sports Complex.
Dirt Devil 12s will begin pool play Friday night at 7:30 p.m. against Sioux City Futures 12u (Felts) at the Summer Sports Complex followed by Saturday games at the Complex against TH Purple Tigers at 10 a.m. and Vermillion Flamez 12u at 4 p.m. Gold and Silver single elimination brackets will open Sunday at the complex.
In the 10u division from the Summer Sports Complex, Dirt Devil 10s Black will play Friday night at 6 p.m. against TH Tigers along with Saturday games against Dirt Devil 10s Red at 10 a.m. and NE Quakes 10u Sinica at 2:30 p.m. Dirt Devil 10s Red will open Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. with Kelly's Fastpitch 10u - Peters followed by Saturday games against Dirt Devil 10s Red at 10 a.m. and TH Tigers at 1 p.m. A five-team, single elimination bracket will open on Sunday at the Complex.
