Dirt Devil 16/18s split against Kelly's, Dirt Devil 14s win

Ahead of a home invitational, two of the older Dirt Devil youth softball teams were in action on May 27.

The Dirt Devil 16/18s hosted Kelly's - Davis 16/18 while Dirt Devil 14s visited West Point 14u.

From the Summer Sports Complex, the Dirt Devil 16/18s suffered a game one loss of 7-2 followed by a 1-0 victory. The Dirt Devils are now 4-5 on the season.

In the opening game, Rylin Hall tripled, drove in a run and scored. Alivia Kesting singled; Lilly Johnson accounted for a RBI as Lily Gubbels scored.

Kinnley McGuire (28 pitches) suffered the loss not recording an out. She allowed six runs (three earned) off two hits while walking three batters. Jordyn Gamble (50) worked three and two-thirds allowing an earned run off two hits while striking out nine batters.

During the second outing, Hall singled twice as Anna Dutcher singled to lead the Dirt Devils.

Gubbels accounted for a RBI as Reagan McGuire scored.

Gamble (80 pitches) picked up the complete game victory in five innings allowing two hits while striking out eight batters and walking two. Gamble recorded 17 strikeouts in the doubleheader.

From West Point, the Dirt Devil 14s picked up wins of 16-4 and 10-4 to improve to 3-4.

In the first game, Reagan McManigal tripled, drove in three runs and scored; Elizabeth Hix doubled, drove in two runs and scored; Sidney Nelson singled twice, drove in three runs and scored as Hadley Woehler singled twice, drove in a run and scored three times.

Chloe Kai singled, drove in a run and scored; Hadley Dunklau singled and scored; Abbey Shultheis accounted for a RBI and two runs scored; Ady Hays and Olivia Brandow both scored twice as Lucille Ocampo and Avery Gubbels both scored.

Ocampo (58 pitches) picked up the complete game victory in three innings allowing four runs (two earned) off five hits while striking out four batters, walking two and hitting two.

During the night cap, tHays and Brandow both tripled and scored twice; Woehler singled, doubled, drove in two runs and scored twice as Nelson doubled and scored.

Kai singled and scored; Gubbels and Josie Haglund both singled and drove in a run; Dunklau accounted for two RBI and a run scored as Shultheis scored.

Dunklau (87 pitches) picked up the complete game victory in four innings allowing four earned runs off three hits while striking out three batters, walking seven and hitting one.

The 2025 Dirt Devil Invite softball tournament May 30 - June 1. 

Dirt Devil 16/18s will open Friday night against Kelly's Fastpitch 16u - Davis at 7:30 p.m. from the Wayne Softball Complex.

Dirt Devil 14s will first play at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at the Summer Sports Complex against Kelly's Fastpitch 14u - Fite.

Dirt Devil 12s will begin pool play Friday night at 7:30 p.m. against Sioux City Futures 12u (Felts) at the Summer Sports Complex.

In the 10u division from the Summer Sports Complex, Dirt Devil 10s Black will play Friday night at 6 p.m. against TH Tigers along with Dirt Devil 10s Red will open Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. with Kelly's Fastpitch 10u - Peters. Dirt Devil 10s Black will face 10s Red at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
