A total of 29 teams were in action from May 30 - June 1 for the annual Dirt Devil Softball Invite where 66 games took place at the Summer Sports Complex and Pete Chapman Softball Complex on the campus of Wayne State College.
In the 18u division, Dirt Devil 16/18s posted a 4-1 record winning the Silver Division Bracket.
The Dirt Devils first won 3-0 over Kelly's - Davis 16/18s on Friday followed by a Saturday split of a 4-3 victory against Prodigy - K Johnson 18u and 4-1 loss to Cavalry 16u Brabec. On Sunday, Dirt Devil 16/18s won 7-4 against Millard Fury 18u and 10-0 over Nebraska Quakes - Matthews 18u during the Silver Division finals.
The Dirt Devil 16/18s are now 8-6 on the season.
For the weekend, Anna Dutcher (two singles, two doubles) and Reagan McGuire (one single, three doubles) both recorded four hits while Kassidee Holz (three singles) and Lily Gubbels (one single, two doubles) each finished with three hits.
Dutcher drove in a team-high four runs along with Lily Gubbels who added three RBI.
Reagan McGuire led the team with seven runs scored as Dutcher and Kinnley McGuire both crossed the plate four times.
Jordyn Gamble (212 pitches) worked 12 innings starting three games. She allowed three runs (two earned) off 10 hits while striking out 16 batters and walking seven.
Kinnley McGuire (180) pitched seven innings starting two games. She allowed eight runs (five earned) off six hits while striking out 11 batters, walking nine and hitting one.
Next up for the Dirt Devil 16/18s will be a Friday, June 6 showdown against Pender 18u on Friday, June 6. The 18C District 8 double elimination tournament will showcase seven teams in Arlington. The winner/loser will face either Cavalry 16u Brabec or Oakland Rockets on Saturday, June 7 at 9:30 a.m. (winner's) or 11 a.m. (loser's). Finals are scheduled for Sunday, June 3.
