Dirt Devil 18s, 14s pool play results from Zoom In’ Thru June York Tournament

Two of the older Dirt Devil softball programs opened the Zoom in’ Thru June York Tournament on Saturday.

From the York Ball Complex, the Dirt Devil 18s competed in pool B of the 18U-A Division while the Dirt Devil 14s were in Pool B of the 14U Division.

The Dirt Devil 18s (12-9) went 2-1 on Saturday starting with a 7-0 loss against the McCook Rebels 18U, followed by back-to-back victories of 9-0 over McCook Prodigy 18U and 3-2 against the Tri Co Twisters.

In the loss against the Rebels, McCook scored a run in the first inning. Following back-to-back scoreless innings, the Rebels brought in six runs during the fourth to win 7-0 and outhit the Dirt Devil 18s, 7-0.

Five Dirt Devils recorded a walk being Reagan McGuire, Sammi Gubbels, Jordyn Gamble, Kassidee Holz and Jersi Jensen as the only base runners.

Sammi Gubbels (85 pitches) suffered the complete game loss in four innings allowing seven runs (six earned) off seven hits while striking out six batters and walking two.

During the win with McCook Prodigy, the Dirt Devil 18s opened scoring with a run in the first followed by two runs in the second. The Dirt Devils then recorded a five-run third and scored once more in the fourth to win 9-0 and outhit McCook Prodigy, 8-0.

Lily Gubbels singled twice, drove in two runs and scored twice while Sammi Gubbels singled twice and scored twice.

Gamble and McGuire both singled, drove in a run and scored; Jensen singled, drove in two runs and scored; Rylin Hall singled and scored; Alexis Legler accounted for a RBI and run scored as Holz added a RBI.

Sammi Gubbels (34 pitches) picked up the perfect game victory not allowing a run or hit while striking out three batters. She faced 10 total batters and also had six flyouts and one groundout.

From the victory over the Tri Co Twisters, the Twisters led 2-0 after the first inning before the Dirt Devil 18s answered with a run in the second and two more runs in the third to hold onto the 3-2 victory despite being outhit, 3-2.

Hall doubled and drove in a run while McGuire singled and scored.

Jensen accounted for a RBI as Sammi Gubbels and Gamble both scored.

Sammi Gubbels (89 pitches) picked up the win in four innings allowing two earned runs off three hits while striking out three batters and walking four.

The Dirt Devil 18s were to open bracket play on Sunday, June 30 taking on the York Fusion in York.

The Dirt Devil 14s (17-12-1) went 1-1-1 in their three games on Saturday starting with a 7-6 loss against the St. Paul Wildcats, followed by a 16-3 victory over Voyager 14U Black (Grand Island) and closed out with a 5-5 tie with a cross-pool outing against the Gresham Blackbirds.

In the loss against the St. Paul Wildcats, St. Paul led 2-1 after the first inning. The Dirt Devil 14s scored five runs in the top of the second to lead 6-2, before St. Paul answered with their own five-run second and held onto the 7-6 victory. The Wildcats also won the hit department, 8-5.

Sidney Nelson doubled twice and drove in two runs while Kinnley McGuire doubled, drove in two runs and scored twice.

Gracelynn Daniels singled, drove in a run and scored; Alivia Kesting singled and scored; Anna Dutcher accounted for a RBI and run scored as Kamden Dobbins scored.

McGuire (79 pitches) suffered the complete game loss in three innings allowing seven runs (four earned) off eight hits while striking out eight batters and walking two.

During the win over Voyager 14U Black (Grand Island), both teams scored three runs in the first inning. The Dirt Devil 14s then posted a five-run second inning and scored eight more runs in the third to win 16-3 and win the hit department, 9-6.

Dobbins singled, doubled, drove in two runs and scored three times; Elizabeth Hix singled twice, drove in a run and scored while McGuire doubled, drove in two runs and scored.

Nelson singled, drove in two runs and scored twice; Dutcher and Johnson both singled and scored three runs; Daniels singled and drove in a run; Kesting accounted for a RBI and run scored as Abbey Shultheis scored twice.

McGuire (32 pitches) picked up the win in two innings of relief allowing two earned runs off four hits while striking out three batters. Johnson (11) started the game not recording an out allowing an earned  run off two hits.

From the tie with the Gresham Blackbirds, the Blackbirds led 3-2 after the first inning while the Dirt Devil 14s answered with a run in the second. Gresham Blackbirds then regained the led with two runs in the top of the third while the Dirt Devils scored two more runs in the fourth to force the 5-5 tie. The Blackbirds outhit the Dirt Devil 14s, 6-3.

Dobbins doubled and drove in two runs while Johnson singled and drove in two runs.

Kinnley McGuire singled, drove in a run and scored as single runs came from Nelson, Dutcher, Hix and Kesting.

McGuire (79) had no decision in the game allowing five runs (two earned) off six hits while striking out five batters, walking four and hitting one.
