Dirt Devil 18s, 14s to conclude summer schedules this week

Two remaining Dirt Devil summer softball programs will have their season come to an end this week.

The Dirt Devil 18s (13-10) were scheduled to visit Oakland Tuesday while the Dirt Devil 14s hosted Dakota Valley 14U from the Summer Sports Complex Tuesday night.

The Dirt Devil 18s have canceled their road game at Oakland Tuesday night.

Later this week, the Dirt Devil 18s will open the 2024 Ringneck International Tournament in Sioux Falls, South Dakota featuring a total of 32 teams in the 18U Division.

In 18U Pool Seven, the Dirt Devils will face Prodigy Nationals Thompson 18U at 4 p.m. on Friday along with South Dakota Lonewolf-Athletics at 8 a.m. and Kansas Heatwave at 2 p.m. both on Saturday. Both the A and B Division bracket games will take place on Sunday.

The Dirt Devil 14s (19-14-1) picked up wins of 5-3 and 13-7 over Dakota Valley Tuesday night.

In the opening game, Dakota Valley led 2-0 after the first inning followed by both teams scoring a run in the second. The Dirt Devil 14s then posted a four-run third inning to win 5-3 despite being outhit, 7-5.

Kamden Dobbins singled, drove in three runs and scored once while Lilly Johnson singled and scored.

Gracelynn Daniels, Elizabeth Hix and Olivia Brandow all singled as Kinnley McGuire, Anna Dutcher and Abbey Shultheis all scored.

McGuire (108 pitches) picked up the complete game victory in six innings allowing three runs off seven hits while striking out 11 batters and walking four.

During the second outing, the Dirt Devil 14s opened with a two-run first inning while Dakota Valley answered with a three-run second and used a 3-1 advantage in the third to lead 6-3. Both teams scored a run in the fourth as the Dirt Devil 14s recorded a nine-run fifth inning to win 13-7 despite being outhit, 7-6.

Daniels singled, drove in two runs and scored while Dobbins, McGuire and Johnson all singled, drove in a run and scored twice.

Kaylei McIntosh singled and drove in two runs; Hix singled and drove in a run; Alivia Kesting accounted for a RBI and run scored; Brandow scored twice as single runs came from Anna Dutcher, Sidney Nelson and Shultheis.

Johnson (91 pitches) picked up the complete game victory in five innings allowing seven runs (six earned) off seven hits while striking out four batters, walking three and hitting one.

Next up for the Dirt Devil 14s will be the Class C Nebraska Fastpitch Championships on a wildcard. The 22-team bracket is guaranteed three games.

From Hastings, the Dirt Devils will first face Lady Rebels 14U at 2 p.m. on Friday.

The Dirt Devil 12s (13-12), Dirt Devil 10s Black (8-27) and Dirt Devil 10s Red (40-5-1) all ended their season. Dirt Devil 10s Red recently earned a third place finish at the Class C Nebraska Fastpitch Championships in Hastings this past weekend.
